Karli (as well Karla) occurs as town on the main road between Pune and Mumbai in southern Maharashtra in India.
A settlement is best known for the Karli Caves - the First century BC Buddhist temple or chaitya cut out from either stone. At 40m yearn & 15m around height, these are a largest such chaitya around India]. A aisle of the temple is flanked by 37 pillars that come topped sustaining kneeling elephants.
